Cicadas Calling

even confident machines need moments of reflection, seeing how synths talk to insects and how the sounds of the night talks back to a brooding trumpet, rebuilding a sense of bouncing groove in its immense subtleties, we can remain oblivious to the obvious, cut out the noise and hear the cicadas calling.

What started as a written song took a left turn off the intended train of thought and got lost in the patch cables of Dion Monti’s home studio. Much of what was, was discarded and made space for what could be, more synth, more space, all that remained was one trumpet line that was added back in post-production.

All the rest was tracked live in an immense and unfinished studio, Marcus’s big sound in the even bigger drum warehouse and Ralph looping his trumpet sounds in real time to create a textured journey that ends in a different place than where it starts.
